Companies House Identity Verification Process for Directors & Persons with Significant Control

All Company Directors and people with significant control normally the majority shareholder are now legally required to verify their identity under the Economic Crime and Corporate Transparency Act 2023.

Company Directors

You’ll need to provide the personal code and a verification statement for each Director on the annual Confirmation Statement.

You’ll need to provide identity verification details to incorporate a new company or be a Director of an existing company.

Person with Significant Control (PSC) 

You’ll need to provide your personal code to Companies House for your role as a PSC.

Using an Authorised Corporate Service Provider (ASCP)

We can as an ACSP verify your identity on your behalf.

As an Authorised Corporate Service Provider, we are regulated by HMRC and overseen by Companies House and are supervised by a UK Anti-Money Laundering (AML) supervisory body.

Our responsibilities include verifying the identity of:

  • Directors.
  • Persons with Significant Control (To complete the verification, we will ask you to upload several documents. Upload Due Diligence Documents.

Our Service & Fees

Our fee to manage the verification process directly with Companies House is:

  • ID verification for UK Director: £100 + VAT per person
  • ID verification for Overseas Director: £140 + VAT per person

Information and Documents Required for Verification

To complete your identity verification, you must provide the following information:

  • Full name, including any previous names
  • Date of birth
  • Current home address
  • Address history for the past 12 months.
  • email address.

Additionally, you will need to submit one of these accepted identity documents:

  • Passport
  • EU photocard driving licence
  • EU Biometric identity card

To complete the verification, we will ask you to upload several documents.

Upload Due Diligence Documents

Personal code

 

The personal code is linked to the individual, not their role or the corporate entity. Therefore, if someone is both a director and a PSC, or a director of multiple companies, they’ll only need to submit one application.

 

If you verify your identity through GOV.​UK One Login, you’ll be able to view your personal code in the ‘manage account’ section of your Companies House account.

If you verify your identity using an ACSP, you’ll receive your personal code by email.

There are two methods for identity verification:

1) If you have a biometric passport, it may be possible to complete the verification directly with Companies House.

Individuals with a non-biometric passport or non-UK nationality/residency status may face difficulty with the online verification requirements.

Overseas individuals who cannot pass the digital checks with Companies House may need to present their documents to an Authorised Corporate Service Provider (ACSP) to complete the verification checks remotely.

As an authorised agent, we can complete this verification on your behalf to ensure seamless compliance with the new regulations.

Why do you need to do this? 
From Autumn 2025, UK regulations require all company directors, PSCs and LLP members to verify their identity. This is part of the Economic Crime and Corporate Transparency Act (ECCTA) to help prevent fraud and money laundering.

Once verified, you’ll receive a personal authorisation code from Companies House. This code is essential – without it, your company won’t be able to file important documents like confirmation statements. System Day Ltd needs this code to continue managing your company’s filings on your behalf.

What you’ll need:

  • A valid passport (recommended) or an EU driving licence
  • Proof of address – (utility bill, bank statement, or council tax bill from the last 3 months)
  • Your smartphone (highly recommended) or computer with a camera
  • About 5-10 minutes
