The Registrar of Companies maintains certain information on companies registered in New Zealand, however, not all this information is available for public inspection. For example, shareholder and director registers must be filed with the Registrar but are not available for viewing by the public.
New Zealand companies are obliged to complete financial statements in accordance with the requirements of the Financial Reporting Act 1993 (FRA) and Financial Reporting Amendment Act 2006.
The Financial Reporting Act in New Zealand requires all companies to prepare and file an annual financial statement with the Registrar of Companies. Generally, the financial statements must be filed within six months following the end of the company's financial year. Companies must set out the financial statements in accordance with the New Zealand GAAP standards.
