The Companies Office of Jamaica must approve all company name proposals and may refuse any name which it deems to closely resemble another name already on the Register of Companies. Names may also be rejected on the basis of the proposed company name implying a connection to Royalty or Political party, unless justified and names implying the profession of the business such as "Medical", "Accountants", etc must also be justified by a professional certificate stating the indicated profession in the name corresponds to the business activities.

A Jamaican company must hold a general meeting each year, with no longer than 15 months elapsing between the date of one meeting and the next. If the first annual general meeting is held within 18 months of incorporation, another is not required for the year of incorporation or in the following year.
A company limited by shares or guarantee and having a share capital shall hold a general meeting of the company members, called the Statutory Meeting, between one and three months from when the company begins to commence business.
